S31803 (F51, 2205, 1.4462) Duplex Stainless Steel Overview:

S31803 (F51, 2205, 1.4462) duplex steel is a new product successfully researched and developed in 2000. S31803 duplex steel is a nitrogen-added duplex stainless steel (2205 duplex steel for short). Duplex stainless steel composed of chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel-nitrogen alloy. At present, domestic S31803 duplex steel products include welded pipes, seamless pipes, steel plates, bars, forgings, and strips. The early duplex stainless steels can withstand moderate strength uniform corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking, but when used under welding conditions, their performance will be greatly reduced. In order to improve this situation, nitrogen was added to the S31803 duplex steel, which not only improved the corrosion resistance, but also used it well in welding. It has high strength, good impact toughness, and good overall and local resistance to stress corrosion.

The yield strength of S31803 duplex steel is twice that of austenitic stainless steel. This feature allows designers to reduce weight when designing products, giving this alloy a price advantage over 316 and 317L. This alloy is particularly suitable for use in the -50 ° F / + 600 ° F temperature range. Applications outside this temperature range can also be considered for this alloy, but have some limitations, especially when applied to welded structures. Due to the special performance characteristics of S31803 duplex steel, it has a wide range of applications. It is by far the most widely used grade in duplex steel.
