S31500 (00Cr18Ni5Mo3Si2, 1.4417) Duplex Stainless Steel Overview:

S31500 steel is austenitic-ferritic stainless steel (duplex stainless steel). It is a special stainless steel resistant to chloride stress corrosion formed by adding nitrogen with a mass fraction of 0.05% to 0.10% in the steel. The pitting resistance is equivalent to that of S31603 steel. S31500 steel has better comprehensive properties such as strength and toughness, and has better performance in cold and hot working or cold forming processes, but it is easy to produce pure ferrite structure near the fusion line after welding and lose the characteristics of dual phase steel.

 

S31500 (00Cr18Ni5Mo3Si2, 1.4417) duplex stainless steel weldability:

S31500 steel has good weldability, low tendency to thermal cracking and small tendency to embrittlement.

 

Corrosion resistance of S31500 (00Cr18Ni5Mo3Si2, 1.4417) duplex stainless steel:

S31500 steel has better resistance to stress corrosion than austenitic stainless steel such as 304 or 316. In high-concentration MgCl2 solution, it has higher sensitivity to stress corrosion cracking and excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. However, in the case of high-temperature sensitization heating or welding, once a single-phase ferrite structure appears, it is still sensitive to intergranular corrosion.

S31500 steel is suitable for environments containing chloride ions. It is used in the manufacture of heat exchangers and condensers in industries such as oil refining, fertilizers, papermaking, petroleum, and chemical industries.
