Application areas of combustible ice energy-related specialty alloys:

The extraction and storage of hydrate-based fuels face extreme conditions such as high pressure in the deep ocean, strong corrosion, and low temperatures. Special alloys have become the core material support for their commercial development. In the extraction process, nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys can be used for pressure-resistant drill rods and wellhead equipment on drilling platforms, capable of withstanding extremely high pressures in deep waters several kilometers below the surface, while also resisting the corrosive effects of acidic media generated by the decomposition of methane hydrates, thereby ensuring the stability of the extraction operations.

In the transportation system, pipes and valves made of special alloys possess excellent low-temperature toughness and hydrogen embrittlement resistance, which can prevent the decomposition and leakage of methane hydrate during transportation due to temperature fluctuations. During storage and transportation, special alloys are used for the inner casing and insulation layer of low-temperature storage tanks, enabling the maintenance of a low-temperature environment of –162°C, inhibiting the decomposition of methane hydrate, and improving energy storage efficiency.

In addition, special alloys are also used in the sensor housings of monitoring equipment for the extraction of methane hydrate, ensuring the precision of data transmission in complex marine environments. The customized development of these alloy materials provides a reliable material solution for the entire value chain of methane hydrate from exploration to utilization, accelerating the commercialization of this new type of clean energy.
