Overview

9Cr18MoV has good rust resistance. It is a high-quality stainless steel currently used in the high-end batch tool market. Its strength and sharpness are lower than ATS-34, and the chromium content is as high as 16-18%. ATS-34), also the first stainless steel accepted by knifesmiths, has been very popular, especially after the sub-zero processing process was developed, which strengthened the toughness of the steel.

When grinding, it has the disadvantages of being relatively viscous and heating up quickly, but it is easier to grind than any carbon steel, and it is much easier to cut by hand. The annealing temperature of 440C is very low, the hardness after quenching is high, the hardness usually reaches HRC56-58, the corrosion resistance is good (magnetic) and the toughness is very strong.

Mechanical properties

Hardness: Annealing, ≤269HB; Quenching and tempering, ≥55HRC

 

Heat treatment process

Heat treatment specification: 1) Annealing, 800 ～ 920 ℃ slow cooling;

2) Quenching, oil cooling at 1050 ～ 1075 ℃;

3) Tempering, air cooling at 100 ～ 200 ℃.

 

Microstructure

The structure is characterized by martensite.

Generally, it is delivered in a heat-treated state, and the type of heat treatment is specified in the contract; if it is not specified, it is delivered in a non-heat-treated state.
