XM-13 (PH13-8Mo, S13800, 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al) precipitation hardening steel overview:

XM-13 is a martensitic stainless steel that can be precipitation hardened or aged hardened. It has high strength and high hardness, and has good resistance to general corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. In addition, the longitudinal and transverse ductility and toughness of large diameter materials are also very good. Compared with other iron-based materials, XM-13 has higher mechanical properties and is suitable for harsh environments. XM-13 has good processability, and it can age harden by one heat treatment at a lower temperature. Cold working before aging can also improve the aging effect.

XM-13 (PH13-8Mo, S13800, 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al) precipitation hardening steel applications:

13-8Mo can be used to manufacture valve parts, joints, cold extruded and machined fasteners, shafts, landing gear parts, latches, retaining washers, aircraft parts, nuclear reactor parts and petrochemical equipment parts. These applications all need to face stress corrosion cracking. In general, the alloy is suitable for stainless steel applications that require high strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, stress corrosion cracking, and minimal directivity.

13-8Mo is resistant to oxidation up to 539 ° C. Precipitation-hardened stainless steels that are exposed to elevated temperatures for extended periods of time can cause reduced toughness. In some cases, higher aging temperatures can reduce toughness in warming environments. If the maximum temperature is at least 28 ° C lower than the aging temperature, short-term exposure is possible.

XM-13 (PH13-8Mo, S13800, 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al) corrosion resistance of precipitation hardening steel:

The rust resistance of 13-8Mo H950 to 5% (mass) salt spray is similar to that of 304 stainless steel. In strong oxidation and strong reducing acid, the corrosion resistance of 13-8Mo is close to 304. Like other precipitation-hardened stainless steels, 13-8Mo has the strongest corrosion resistance in the fully hardened state, and the higher the aging temperature, the lower the corrosion resistance.

A large number of experiments show that the forged state and welded state of 13-8Mo have good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in seawater environment. In order to achieve the best resistance to stress corrosion cracking, the minimum aging temperature is 538 ° C.
